Select a current article and explain what it expresses

The magazine I have chosen is XXL. The article in the magazine is about Rick Ross's three new MCs who have helped make his label Maybach Music Groups first official release. The three MCs are Wale, Pill and Meek Mill.

The main colours for this article are red, black and white. Most of the writing in the article is set out as a conversation between the three MCs.

There are three pictures in the article. The pictures are of each of the three artists and and each artists picture is placed in the centre of each page with the conversation going around the picture. In the Article they have used pull out quotes from each artist.

Evaluation

We were set a preliminary task, where we had to create a front cover and contents page of a magazine for the school. My magazine was aimed boys in the 6th form.

For my Front cover I used the colour scheme of blue, Black and grey. I used this colour scheme because I thought it is more masculine and the colour scheme goes with my picture which I took for my front cover. The picture for my front cover is a medium close up of a student from the 6^th form and he is shown to be reading a textbook. I chose to take an image like this because it shows the change from GSCE to A levels and shows that more hard work is required when in 6th form. Lastly I chose the title for my magazine as 'ADVANCED'. I chose this name because this emphasises the change between GCSE to A level and shows the education is far more advanced.

For my contents page I have carried out the same colour theme and font of writing. I chose to put three pictures on my contents page because it represents the different type of lifestyles you can have in 6th and not just reflecting on the lifestyle of studying. I chose to use the picture of three boys sitting next to a computer socialising because this picture shows the facilities the 6th form boys have for work and also for research on any topic. I have taken a picture of a boy and girl from 6^th form sitting together doing their work because it shows there’s a unity between boys and girls and their not separated. For the last picture I chose to use the image of the 6^th building because this represents the home for Norbury Manor 6^th form students

For my coursework I would like to improve on better skills on taking photos because I think the picture makes the magazine stand out. Also for my coursework I would improve on using Photoshop and find out how to use new features so that I can make my coursework effective and creative.

Reader profile

Bilal Musa is a student retaking yr 12. He is just about to turn 18 and is really enthusiastic about football. Bilal had a tough first year of Alevels because of the big jump from GCSEs and took the first year (year 12) very lightly. Bilal lives with his mum and his little brother and 3 cats ginger, shadow and snowbell. Bilal has the responsibility of helping his brother with homework and also hates cleaning the house. He has a daily routine of going to the gym where he is joined by his friends and also loves going out on the weekends. One lesson Bilal has learned from retaking now is putting more effort in doing revision at home and he is doing that now, after coming back from gym he takes his book out straight away and is ready to get ahead of the class. He would be looking for advice on the transition between GCSEs and Alevels from this magazine.

My preliminary task

For my magazine the target audience is mainly for 6th form students. I have chosen this target audience because I am a student in the 6th form aswell so therefore I no how hard it can get and also how big of a gap there is from the standard of GCSE to Alevels. Also being a student retaking yr 12 again i feel more comftable with aiming my magazine at tis trget audience because they would be able to relate to how there is a change between GCSE and Alevels.
